The Colors of the Rainbow

This photo of lights on our back patio, taken by my friend, Gail Fulkerson, holds within it a philosophy that I have always followed. I believe that we are all one continual strand of connections and lights. Within each of us is our own unique connection to Spirit and from that connection comes our own particular color and shade of light. Like the stars of the universe, we all shine with our own vibrancy and sparkle, but are each not only connected, one to the other, but also interwoven and reaching out to fulfill that connection.

When we go off our paths of purpose, we lose our light. That which takes us off our path tends to, slowly but surely, chip away at the light that is within until we finally either get back on our path or we burn out. Unlike the lights on this string, none of us are replaceable. What we have to offer is unique and yet a part of a large pool of potential. We are much better off if we fulfill our purpose and make sure that in doing so we take the time for what is important in our lives.

That is why I work four days a week. The other three days are for my life to happen. Of course, my life happens during the four work days as well, but I feel it is important to allow myself to have time to not just get laundry done and mundane stuff like that on my days off, but to also connect with others, go for coffee and lunch, be with my children and simply relax. Money has never meant all that much to me. I am no longer succumbing to the pressure society has for me to be driven and goal oriented. I like goals. But they have their place. And if I am with my children, my goals can simply wait. I don't like being driven. When one is driven one is usually driven right over the edge. So yes I can be motivated, but I will never be driven. I am in control, not some other person or idea. My life is mine to do with as I see fit. If that doesn't look like all the other drone's lives out there, I really don't care.

My light will shine as long as I want it to, and right now I want it to shine a very long time and to light up the lives of others as much as it possibly can. My light shines with all the colors of the rainbow and it shines in my smile, my spirit, my laughter and my love. It reminds me of that song, "This Little Light of Mine". I think that there is a lot to that song. Google the lyrics if you like. I used to have to sing that song in Sunday School. At that time, I was repulsed by the whole Christian slant to it. But I have taken from it all that it means to me. No one is going to snuff out my light. I am going to let it shine all over the world. I know my light is a part of the Light of the Universe and there isn't anyone who can take that away from me.

The Mystical

I have been doing a lot of outdoor gardening of late. I find that the more I connect with nature, the more I connect with my inner mystical being. In honor of my inner mystical being, I created this mask a few years ago. for me, it represents the connection to earth and sky, fire and water, and a deep psychic connection to all the realms of the universe. We can all connect with the many realms, we just need to train ourselves to do this...without the use of psychotropic drugs and "medicine" plants. People get too dependent upon these substances. The mind does not really need them, other than perhaps once to open the doorway. After that, the use of them is just laziness. I equate it to a perfectly functioning person always having to push the handicap button on the door to make it open for them instead of just reaching out and pushing or pulling the door. We don't need the crutch. We simply need to do the slightest effort of work and there it is.

Some people freak out when they see my mask. They see the beauty, but also feel the intensity. That is why I don't usually have it displayed. I want folks to feel comfortable in my healing space. Now that I have written that, however, I also think it may be time to bring it out again. If nothing else, it will adorn my altar with a reminder of what is naturally within us all.

Creative Workings

Along the three-fold path to illumination and enlightenment, the first path is that of creativity. When we create something....anything....we connect to Spirit. Have you ever noticed how completely absorbed in the creative process a child can be while making a sand castle? That is connection to Spirit. Their creativity should never be limited to molds and pails and shovels. They need to be allowed to just make the sand castle with their bare hands, feeling the wet sand with their fingertips and under their fingernails. It connects them to the earth and to the inspiration that Spirit has to offer them.

It doesn't even matter if the creation is something that lasts or something that is transitory. I sometimes prefer the things I have created to only be there for a short time. That is part of why I enjoy making sand castles just as much as my daughter does. It is magnificent, just like a sunset, and then it is gone, only to be recreated in another form at a later time. Sand castle building, like painting, carpentry, and welding, is a meditative process that can lead to some radical insights. Creativity does not need to be limited to artistic things. Sometimes it is just the way you put together an outfit or jewelry, or the way you choose to wash your car by hand. Simple, ordinary creativity is the first of the three-fold path.

The Vertical Expression

Dance is the vertical expression of the horizontal desire. When we allow ourselves to let go and dance we discover a primal force within us. This helps us to connect more intimately with our surroundings...the earth, the animals, the birds, the insects, the trees and flowers, and the people. Is it any wonder that some Western religions have banned it? To quote my Love, "I find organized religion the greatest deterrent to true or authentic connection with God." She is quite an amazing person to have that figured out at such an early age!

In Shamanic practice there is something called Trance Dance. This is utilizing dance as a means to connect with Spirit. Sometimes one dances their power animal, sometimes their fears or joys, sometimes their passions, and sometimes Deity Itself. In the process, all the energetic blockages that have been tightening up our bodies let go and release. It becomes an ecstatic experience. And yes, it can lead one to having the best sex ever. But, for those who are religious beyond belief, just remember that sex can also lead to dance! A very dangerous thing indeed!

When we release the blockages it frees up our energy fields for other, more life giving things. Sex is just one of those life giving things. Once clear, we are able to dedicate our time to those things that fulfill us. We follow our creative flow and discover that we are really good at stuff that we never allowed ourselves to explore, either in terms of time or in terms of believing that we actually could. Suddenly our world changes into a vibrant place that is full of life's potential. And it is not even that the world itself has changed. It is more that we have changed and are now reawakening to what was already there. So go ahead everyone! Shake that bootie!
