Fun and Festivities

It has been so long since I have had hair that I was not sure this was actually me! But it was. This is me in my costume for the Halloween Drum Circle held on October 30th. I was in the persona of Trentulla! Can you see all the spider webs and spiders all over me? Look closely. There is a spider pendant, a spider on my arm, 2 hanging from my ears and so on. The best part of it was that for the drumming rounds I was able to, for the first time since I was, like, 18 or so, incorporate Hairology. You know what that is don't you? Flicking your hair around to the rhythm and making yourself look like a rock star! The only issue I had with it all was that I kept getting the darn stuff in my mouth! I hate hair in my mouth, acrylic or natural. Ick!

There were 26 people that showed up for the circle which made the event amazing. There was even a Belly Dancer who danced around the flaming cauldron. Very dramatic and beautiful and so completely spiritually connected was this event that people are still emailing and phoning me with gratitude for hosting this. Of course, I would not have been able to do this if it were not for the assistance of my co-host, my Love of my lives. So all the gratitude is also extended and transferred to her as well.

I already have the next event for Halloween in my day planner for next year. This is one I never like to miss.

Blessed Be

Welcome to my garden!

I think that every garden needs to have a balance of functionality and whimsy.  After all, what would life be without a wee bit of whimsy here and there?  Boring is what.  My Love and I have designed our garden to include things such as flowers, garden boxes in which vegetables and flowers can grow side by side, a rock gathering space with a fire bowl and citronella torches for evenings when the mosquitoes arrive.  It is where we gather for drum circles, hot dog roasts and generally to entertain by the fire at night, and if  the weather cooperates it will be where I have my Elemental Healing Workshop in July! (check out the website below for details)  I love the calm of the evening fire as much as I enjoy the bright colors of the flowerbeds.
I find it too confining to limit the garden to just a section of flowers and then a section of vegetables etc.  That is why you will find on the other side of the flower bed, amongst peonies and delphiniums  some planted potatoes.  Yes, there is a potato plot at the very back that will be bordered with giant sun flowers when they grow, but if there is space to put something, even if we dig it up later for food, then that is where stuff will grow.  The fairies and devas tell me that this is a perfectly natural way to garden.  After all, in nature you won't find just elm trees growing in a perfect row with nothing else amongst them.  You will find a smattering of everything.
The arbor is crowned with deer antlers to honor the spirit of the Deer, who also guides me.  Then you will find stone plaques of things like "Welcome to my Garden" and a mosaic of the Sun, a conch shell and solar powered lights that glow and change color at night.  It is a magical place and I love caring for it and enjoying the serenity of it.  When we allow ourselves to be limitless in our creations we end up with a perfect blend of functionality and whimsy.  I will take more photos as things grow from seeds to full foliage and share more with you as we go.
Blessed Be

Quiet

"All things that have flowered return to their root. This returning to the root has a name: Quiet." Lao-tzu.

Have you ever noticed the relaxed, quiet afterglow that follows making love? All the senses have been stimulated, the endorphins are now rushing through the brain, and the deep sense of satisfaction hums through the aura. This is a "returning to the root". The same is experienced after spirit dance. Everything has built up to a climax and afterward there is a calm within and a connection with Spirit that glows all around us. We also get this effect from drumming circles and meditation. These things nourish our bodies and our souls. On the Wheel of Life, returning to the root would be the point of crossing over to the other side of the Veil of Existence until we reincarnate. This is also the experience that is promoted during the "shaman's death", which is the death of an old way of being and the birth of a new way of being that is actually primordially older than the way that we have just sluffed off. It is a return to the shamanic roots that exist in every culture and every race around the world. It is a connection with Nature and with the Divine, internally and externally.

Some have roots that grow deeper than others. This is not about "my people have been here longer than your people" and it is not about "Our ways are older and better than your ways." This is about working on returning to the root daily. Our personal backgrounds have little to do with our personal potentials. No matter what has forced us to bloom, we each have the capacity to deepen our connections.

Blessed Be
