She Sparkles As She Moves

Last night my partner and I went to the first ballroom dance of the year, the Harvest Swing. This is the first time in over 20 years that I have attended a ballroom dance, so I was quite nervous. And then, as we begin to Rumba, I completely forgot most of what I had been taught. Doesn't that just bug you when that happens? It used to happen when I would get nervous about a final exam in University. I would sit down to write the exam and the exam paper would go blank right before my eyes! It was as though I really didn't want to be there, so I blanked out the paper itself instead of not having the answers in my head. This time though, I was really wanting to be there and to have some fun on the dance floor. Then suddenly all I could remember of the Rumba was the box step. Pretty remedial. And the more I watched the other dancers to pick up on what they were doing, the more my body just wanted to stand there and watch. So I focused on doing a really great box step!

The good thing about this dance thing is that they only have about 2 of the same kind of dance in a row and then they have 2 of something else. So if you are really struggling there is plenty of opportunity to do something else. Cha cha was great. A couple of times I sat one out and watched as my Love danced with someone else. She absolutely sparkles when she dances. This is not just the sparkles on the sequins on her skirt, this is the sparkles in her eyes and in the energy all around her. It tickled me to watch her dance. It also inspired me to become a much better dancer. Oh, and this morning as I woke up I remembered how to do the open break in the Rumba! There is progress, delayed as it is!

The Next 7 Generations

Shamanic teachings tell us that thoughts and feelings are energy. Emotions are energy in motions (E-motion). They are meant to be fluid and constantly moving, not dammed up and stagnant. Thoughts are energy in creation. Everything we think, say and do creates something within us and around us. Also, on the other side of the coin, those things we don't think, say or do create a reality all their own as well. The absence is just as important as the presence when it comes to thoughts.

As energy, thoughts, words and actions have a ripple effect for the next 7 generations. We can see that pretty clearly when we look even at just 3 or 4 generations. Think about toxic behavior, for example. An alcoholic grandparent can have a ripple effect of negativity down through the generations to their great grandchildren. We don't need to study rocket science to see that very clearly.

But it is the more subtle things that go through our minds in the forms of thought energies that trip us up even worse sometimes. A simple thought like "I couldn't possibly do that." is something that disables us for years. And it is something that we unconsciously pass down to our children and they pass down to their children. We need to rework our own thoughts so that the energy they produce can be helpful instead of harmful.

I remember doing a healing body work exercise and hearing my father's voice very clearly say,"You'll never stand on your own two feet." To my knowledge, he never said this to me. But I do know that he had that belief about himself. And I do know that he projected that belief onto others around me. I just didn't realize that I had integrated it into my own personal belief system. Days after this happened, I was in a rock store and the owner showed me a photo of his daughters, all in their late teens and early twenties. Then he said that he had always raised them with a "Yes, you can" statement so that they would grow up to be confident and capable women. I have applied this philosophy to my own daughters, born years after this encounter. I am quite amazed at how easy the negative belief of my father has been erased within two generations. I don't think this would have been possible if I were still unconscious of the fact that the belief was within me.

We need to allow ourselves to become conscious. How do we do this? We pay attention to the voices inside our minds. The tapes that keep running over and over about how wrong, or stupid, or unworthy or weak we are can be erased and replaced with tapes of self-confidence, strength, intelligence and capability. We just need to take a little bit of time and pay attention to ourselves. Also we need to look at what comes out of our mouths. When we really look at some things we say that seem to make sense at the time we can find that they are actually negative programs that can be disabling. I have found a few of those recently in my own words during my life changes. I am so happy that I have friends and family to point them out to me. Shaman...heal thyself! We are all human and we all have stuff. It is how we work with that stuff that counts.

Vibrational Transmitters

It has been said in many oral traditions that everything we think, say and do will ripple forth for the next seven generations. This also applies to those who don't happen to have children of their own. So how does this work, anyway?

We can understand this more easily when we wrap our minds around the fact that we are vibrational transmitters. Our thoughts, our actions and our words are energies that create a ripple in the pond of universal energies. Spirit then feels this and responds. As it responds, what we have sent out comes back to us, magnified several fold. This is also called "instant karma", which is totally a groovy thing because it means we don't even have to send out bad thoughts at the fool that cut us off in traffic, because that same fool will have some of that negative energy he just created bite him in the keester.

But the way it ripples so long and far (the 7 generations thing) is quite amazing. That is where generational karma comes into effect. What our ancestors sowed, we now reap. And we have to make sure that what we sow is something our future generations will appreciate reaping. After all, we are taking care of the earth for them, not for us. Yes, this also goes into the whole tree hugging thing. If we don't take care of the earth mother, then she won't be able to support us. We may not see that happen in our lifetime, but others will in theirs. This is why we need to respect her and care for her. The future generations are only loaning her to us for right now. It is much the same as an inheritance that is put into the care of a custodian until the child comes of age. It can be used to provide for the growing child, but it does not belong to the custodian.

So it becomes very important to watch not just what we say and do, but also what we think, because those thoughts will ripple out as well. And we want positive ripples to return. This does not mean that we don't slip up now and then. But when we do, we need to replace it with a much more positive vibrational thought. It also doesn't hurt to say "cancel that" to the negative one. Spirit will hear that as well. ;-)
