Water Karma
This is a wee scene from the Yorkton area in southeastern Saskatchewan. It is the result of last week's storm that brought torrential rains and flooding to the downtown area. My water seepage seems so minimal in comparison. There are local businesses that are destroyed and homes that are totalled. Insurance companies are only covering part of what has been done because the flooding is considered to be an "Act of God". Insurance companies bug me. What the heck do we pay premiums for if we aren't going to be assisted when the unforeseen occurs??!!
I always wanted to have a car that was like an amphibian and could be driven in water as well as on land. Perhaps this would be a good thing to invest in now? Mind you, I don't think that I would want it to be like a submarine. I would not want to be underwater completely and see what all is floating around in that water with me. Yikes! Perhaps I will focus more on the boat/car/plane type of vehicle. Or perhaps moving to another planet is in order? It seems that no matter where you go something is happening with the weather. It makes one wonder what is around the corner for us and are we that messed up on this planet that the weather is so radically affected? These are just things to think about.

Water Karma
Close to midnight last night my Love asked me to come into the kitchen and let her know if it was the refrigerator that was making a strange sound. I went into the kitchen and discovered that the apartment above us had torrential water running. A call to the caretakers informed us that the people above us had a water pipe burst and that they were working on it as we spoke. Just after hanging up the phone, our wall began to imitate a water fountain. You know the kind. It is shaped like a stone or glass wall and the water runs down into a pool at the bottom. A very cool effect, if it is actually a fountain. But when it is water that is not supposed to be there and it is pooling in your kitchen, running through the walls and leaking out the fuse box in the storage room, things get a wee bit exciting. A few minutes after that, we had people from the floor below us and the floor below them knocking on our door because they were flooding as well. The water actually went all the way down 17 floors to the parkade. Now, why a pipe could not have erupted on just the 1st floor and not the 17th we will never know. It might be a Murphy's Law type of event. The effect was, shall we say, thorough.
I thought that I was over my water karma. Every place that I have lived in has had things like water pipes burst, hot water heaters erupt and water tables rise so high that it floods the house. I am beginning to wonder if I am actually supposed to live in a boat house! I have done the karmic release around past lives that have ended badly with water being what has transitioned me from one life to the next. I have released the karma around being killed by creatures that live in the water. I have even release the karma around being baptized against my will. So what is left? These are the things that I am pondering (pardon the pun) today. In the meantime, I will continue to do my best to go with the flow.

Suffering
A good friend asked me today why it is that some souls come here to suffer? That is an extremely good question. Here are my musings on the subject:
Sometimes people get into a negative pattern within themselves that creat ecycles of suffering to occur over and over again. When in the midst of the cycles, it is sometimes difficult to see what we ourselves are doing to promote the negative pattern. But once we do, then we can make clear choices to correct the pattern of behaviour and achieve a more positive pattern, thus a more positive outcome.
The same can be said for karmic patterns. Sometimes we come into this life with huge challenges to overcome. These can be conditions of karma. Something we are here to do this life can be to make up for poor choices in another life. On the other side of the coin, sometimes our suffering in this life is also to help those around us to learn about things like compassion and understanding.
Suffering that happens to someone at the hands of another, however, is often the event of one person's free will (I'm gonna kill you!) broadsiding our own free will (I was just standing here minding my own business and then, BAM!, he tried to kill me!). That sort of event only serves to set up negative karma for the offender. We cannot blame the victim with this sort of thing, karma or no karma, because that only serves to traumatize the victim even further, thus preventing them from surviving the event, and eventually becoming a thriver once again.

Karma
People often give me the blank stare when I speak about karma. "Oh, that's that Middle Eastern mumbo jumbo!" they often say. Well, first off, it is not a philosophy that is exclusive to any particular area of the world. It is a universal concept. It is the law of cause and effect. Quite simply put, if I were to harm you, it would come back to me. If I were to bless you, it would come back to me. When we become conscious of this reality ( and that is where some areas of the world are far ahead of our western world philosophy) we would be able to end all wars. There is no sense in repeating history without taking a moment to learn from it. When we look at cause and effect, free of the concepts of blame, we clearly see karma in immediate action. It no longer matters who did what to us, we know that it will come back to them. So then we are able to look with foresight at every action we take, or every action we don't take, and see what we consciously choose for ourselves and the ripple effect of karma that flows from that decision. It is what responsibility is all about....the ability to respond. When we respond with a compassionate heart, we create excellent karma!
