Getting Stoned
I have had a couple of lifetimes in which I have come to my demise through the process of being stoned to death. This is a very slow, cruel and brutal way to die. It took a few lifetimes for me to learn to obey the rules or, at the very least, not get caught not obeying the rules. I guess that I have always been the type who would push the limits and hopefully encourage others to do so as well. Now, there have been many lifetimes in which I have been killed or died in strange ways, such as getting eaten by sharks or alligators and the like. I have worked out my fear of water that stemmed not from the water itself, but from the big bad creatures that were in the water. It really is all a process. What I have wondered about here and there is why I have not developed, considering the number of times I have been stoned to death, a fear of stones and rocks?
As I was helping a client to begin the process of communication with rocks and crystals, it suddenly dawned on me that it was never about the rocks! They have always been my friends. In fact, the ones that were used to stone me to death were screaming "NO!!!!" as they were flung through the air at me. I knew that it was not their desire to be put to such a horrid use. So my fear never was about them. My fear was about the mobs of people who put them to use in a way that would harm another living being. Is it any wonder I don't really like going to concerts, raves, or shopping malls? Now that I know what is behind my discomfort about these events, I am going to be able to work it out much better. I always thought it was just because hoards of people stunk. Perfumes and body odor sometimes overwhelm my olfactory senses. Now I understand that en mass they can be dangerous, these things called humans! So off I go now to heal that part of past life traumas and I am sure that before you know it I will be up on stage in concert leading throngs of people in rhythm and chant! Well....maybe.

Water Karma
Close to midnight last night my Love asked me to come into the kitchen and let her know if it was the refrigerator that was making a strange sound. I went into the kitchen and discovered that the apartment above us had torrential water running. A call to the caretakers informed us that the people above us had a water pipe burst and that they were working on it as we spoke. Just after hanging up the phone, our wall began to imitate a water fountain. You know the kind. It is shaped like a stone or glass wall and the water runs down into a pool at the bottom. A very cool effect, if it is actually a fountain. But when it is water that is not supposed to be there and it is pooling in your kitchen, running through the walls and leaking out the fuse box in the storage room, things get a wee bit exciting. A few minutes after that, we had people from the floor below us and the floor below them knocking on our door because they were flooding as well. The water actually went all the way down 17 floors to the parkade. Now, why a pipe could not have erupted on just the 1st floor and not the 17th we will never know. It might be a Murphy's Law type of event. The effect was, shall we say, thorough.
I thought that I was over my water karma. Every place that I have lived in has had things like water pipes burst, hot water heaters erupt and water tables rise so high that it floods the house. I am beginning to wonder if I am actually supposed to live in a boat house! I have done the karmic release around past lives that have ended badly with water being what has transitioned me from one life to the next. I have released the karma around being killed by creatures that live in the water. I have even release the karma around being baptized against my will. So what is left? These are the things that I am pondering (pardon the pun) today. In the meantime, I will continue to do my best to go with the flow.

Flogged, Stoned, Crucified or Burned at the Stake
The other evening, my partner and I were watching TV and a news break came on. The announcer stated that, in light of the recent hurricanes in the U.S. we could expect oil prices to soar.
My response to this was, "Hmmm. I wonder how long the oil companies are going to take to realize that they would have a lot better Public Relations if in the wake of a disaster they actually lowered their prices in order to help out their fellow man?"
My partner's response went something like, "You know, thinking like that could get you burned at the stake! How many lifetimes will it take for you to learn?"
She knows me well. I have often been flogged, stoned, crucified or burned at the stake because I happen to be a forward thinker. But I think that it will be a looooong time before I stop thinking in forward ways in order to avoid such fates. I also think that we should all extremely limit our oil consumption in order to take the monopoly of control away from the oil companies. There are things like public transit and car pooling for a reason. Personally, I enjoy my walk to work instead of driving (especially now that the iPod is functional!) and so does my partner. We also car pool to other events, such as Ballroom Dance. Every little bit counts when it comes to gas prices that "soar". I would rather we see our spirits soar!
I also think that it would not hurt if everyone wrote a letter (not a silly list of names who agree...an actual individual letter) to the oil companies and state that we are very disappointed in their lack of compassion in the wake of major storms and extremely disgusted in the amount and extent of their greed involved in hiking gas prices yet again in response to devastation. The more paper these companies have to deal with, the more likely we will get their attention.

I'm Baaaaack!
Well now, when last we read this blog I was actually, on the side, preparing to go to Alberta to attend a wedding and do a week's worth of work. The wedding went off without a hitch, except for the one between the bride and groom. The week of work was very productive. I am happy to work with such receptive people! And my hosts were the very best.
Now that I am back I am looking forward to my next few months of private sessions, workshops and classes. I have such a good time doing what I do and sometimes I am overwhelmed with how blessed I am to have the career that I do. Being a shaman is a way of life. Being able to do this for work is a blessing.
I am also starting ballroom dance classes with my partner on this coming Monday evening. I just bought a pair of official dance shoes. Actually, my friend, James, and I (James and his lovely other half, Judith are in the same class) went shopping for ballroom dance shoes today. That is the first thing that ballroom dance classes does to men...it makes us go shopping for shoes together in places that have an overabundance of ballet tutu's. Pink, no less! By now I am sure y'all know how I feel about pink! We found excellent Latin style shoes that look a lot sexier than they actually feel on the foot. We are assured by the lady in the store that the soft leather will stretch out and become something that fits like a glove. Now the last I knew about this a glove was worn on a hand, not a foot. But okay, we will try this out. The heal is about 2 inches, so I hope that I don't sprain an ankle on the dance floor. I do remember wearing similar styled shoes in the 17th century, but that was with white stockings and a vest that covered a frilly shirt that was scratchy on the skin. But like the shoes, the shirt looked a lot sexier than it felt so I was not in it for very long at a time. But that is another story altogether!

The Original Shaman
Did you know that the original shamans were artists as well? It is true. Shamans of ancient times would go into trance as they painted the figures of animals on the rock walls of their caves. In this trance state, they would "tune in" to where the animals were grazing. They would then let the hunters know where to go to find the herds for hunting. It was an ancient form of achieving a GPS coordinate. Considering that we all survived the ice age, I am pretty sure the system worked well.
In modern times, shamans like myself don't have to actually do that sort of thing. Yes, we purchase our groceries at the store like everybody else! Imagine that! But art still plays an important role in the work that I do as a shaman.
When I "tune in" to a person's past life, for example, one of the ways in which I do that is to start drawing them in that past life. As the portrait unfolds on the paper, the details of the lifetime also unfold. When I do a Spirit Energy Portrait I "tune in" to the person's aura, chakras, past lives, power animals, spirit guides and so on, and then place them strategically into the portrait as I paint it. There are also other images that, over time, emerge from within the painting. These images give me messages as well.
I find that even just stirring sand or sugar can put me into that trance state of consciousness, as does looking at a glassy surface such as water or ice, or a crystal. I think that once one catches on to how to access that part of the brain, then the brain takes every opportunity it can to exercise that muscle system within it. Stirring my coffee can do it, washing dishes by hand, brushing teeth, and, when I had it, washing my hair. Life itself becomes a meditation that allows me to channel whatever I need to whenever I need to in order to get the messages from Spirit through to me or others. Having said that, I am needing to be very clear that I don't want crowds of people in the bathroom while I shower! Pllllllease! Remember, I don't have hair anymore!

Past Lives
If we meditate enough, for enough lifetimes, and if we allow ourselves to let go of fear through meditation and trust ourselves as we step into the Void from the Light, then we are able to remember ourselves in many past lives. We may even advance to the point of being able to connect with the mass consciousness and "remember" others' past lives for them.
This is one of the many things that I do as a shaman. I help people to remember. I don't just help them to remember all their past lives. In fact with some there are way too many to remember them all. I help them to remember who they are. We all come to a time in our lives when that memory is essential for our progress from that point onward. I have recently begun remembering some things about myself as well. Yes, the shaman also does his own healing work, as we all must do from time to time. With all of the remembering, I have also rediscovered that it is very important to stay in the moment and honor this life. If we constantly search for ourselves in the past we rob ourselves of our present and our future. So I really don't care if someone was Marie Antoinette in a past life. What I do care about is who that person is now. When I look into that person's eyes, I want to see them for their true divine nature within.
I feel such honor that I have been gifted the opportunity to get to know myself on a deeper level. And I am honored that I have the gift of helping others to do the same. I think that if we help each other to honor our personal divinity, we will elevate ourselves in vibration and, through that elevated vibration, we will be able to heal the world, one person at a time, or by the millions. And why stop at just the world we know? Why not create a whole new world? Or a new universe for that matter? What do you say to taking chances? What could we possibly lose? And how does that really compare to what we could gain?

Spirit Energy Portraits
Today I have finally finished one of my Spirit Energy Portraits (www.deerhornshamanic.com and click on Gallery or Spirit Energy Portraits) for a client. I get so revved when I do one of these. They are a beautiful and powerful illustrated interpretation of a person's aura, spirit path, power animals, Spirit Guides, and past lives. I find them to be awesome to create because they are completely an intuitive process that then gets put into action. This is how the masculine and feminine energies are supposed to work together. Most of the time when I am painting them my eyes are closed. I go into a trance state and allow the portrait to basically be channeled through me.
I am equally amazed at the fact that more things come to the surface long after I have delivered the portrait to the person. Images emerge and present themselves on what seems an ongoing basis and each one adds to the flavor of the portrait. This is too cool.
